Black and White Scrapbook Paper Small Floral
Do you ever wonder what to do with patterned paper scraps? Those paper scraps from all your scrapbooking projects can pile up quickly! And it's a shame to throw them away because they can be used to make inexpensive scrapbook pages! When you consider that they are leftovers you'd normally throw away, using them is like having free supplies for your next scrapbook project! Today we have a fun way to use those scrapbook paper scraps! Also some great scrapbook tips along with die cutting ideas and tips too!
Hi there, it's Kathleen here with a new scrapbook page idea to share on the Maggie Holmes Blog. My inspiration for today's layout came from all the paper scraps I had accumulated from my other Heritage projects so far. I have a hard time throwing away my paper scraps, especially of the papers I really love! And of course, I love all the Heritage papers so I can't throw them out!
Fun Way to Use Scrapbook Paper Scraps:
- Let the paper scraps inspire your creativity: I really wanted to get as much use out of the paper scraps as I could, so I pulled them all out for this page. Once you have them out, you can start to be creative about how to use them. Sort them by size or by color family. When you sort them it can inspire you to go in a certain direction.
- Die cutting flowers: Because my paper scraps were really small, I decided to use them for die cutting and had a look through my dies to see which one could work. I have some small flower dies, which were perfect for all the small paper scraps. And since flowers and any Maggie Holmes collection are always a perfect match, I knew it would come together! I started by die cutting as many small flowers as I could with my small paper scraps.
How to Make a Cute Scrapbook Page with Fall Color Flowers (Die Cutting with Scrapbook Paper Scraps):
- Gather all the paper scraps you want to use for your layout. Scrapbook Tip: Since all the small die cut pieces add lots of color and pattern, try to limit the colors and leave some white space to balance things out.
- Die cut as many pieces as you can from the paper scraps. This is a BIG money saving tip for scrapbooking! No need to use full new sheets of 12×12 paper! You surely have lots of paper scraps that will work if you save them!
- Pick a neutral patterned paper or cardstock for the background to make sure the page won't become too busy.
- Find a place for your photo and adhere it. Using foam adhesive behind the photo will raise it up a little and helps to make it stand out. Scrapbook Tip: Also, consider using a black and white photo so it will stand out in between all the color of the die cut pieces.
- Arrange the die cut pieces on your layout to your liking.
- Adhere all the die cut pieces in place. Make sure to leave some room for a title.
Scrapbooking Tips and Tricks:
- Add a Contrasting Border: When I was almost done with this layout, I felt like it was missing something. Until then I had only used very light colors on this page. By adding the dark blue frame around the white cardstock I created some contrast. This is a great scrapbooking tip which really helps to make your page more interesting.
- Repeat Elements: Usually when I add a new color to a layout, I repeat it in a few other places to tie everything together. Therefore, after adding the dark blue green frame, I wanted to add that color somewhere else. So, I die cut some more small flowers from the dark blue paper. This time however, I used this pattern paper with gold foil from the 6×8 Paper Pad. It has the same color background but adds that beautiful metallic finish!
Embellishing Your Scrapbook Page with Layered Paper Flowers:
- Add Small Embellishments and Stickers: For some final touches I used a few clear phrase stickers, chipboard stickers and enamel dots. And of course I had to add some paint splatters for a little bit of an artsy element. Next I added some stitching around the layout with my sewing machine.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this cute and fun way to use your scrapbook paper scraps and die cutting machine! It's a huge money saving scrapbooking tip to put some of your paper scraps to good use! And also to use more of those papers you really really love! Because really, I can't be the only one who has a hard time throwing them out, right?! 😉 Thank you for stopping by! xo, Kathleen
