People of all ages can use infinity cubes to relieve stress and gain focus or to use as a fun toy. The infinity cube is one cube made up of smaller cubes that can be remodeled in an endless number of ways. All you will need is six different colors of construction paper, basic craft tools and about an hour or two of your time. This is a good project for a rainy day.

  1. 1

Cut out a rectangle with a length of 4 centimeter (1.6 in) and a width of 2 centimeter (0.79 in)

  2. 2

Measure the halfway point of the length. Then draw a line across the rectangle.

  3. 3

Fold the paper so that the ends touch the line.

  4. 4

Repeat this process five more times. Use a different color of construction paper for each repetition.

  5. 5

Apply glue to the outside flaps of each rectangle.

  6. 6

Begin constructing the first cube by connecting the flaps of one rectangle to the inside surface of the other rectangle, making two phases of the cube.

  7. 7

Glue a third rectangle onto the newly added one. Make sure the flaps of rectangle one attach to the inside surface of rectangle three. Repeat this step and attach the rectangle to the other side of the second rectangle.

  8. 8

Attach the base new rectangle to the top flaps of the third and fourth rectangles.

  9. 9

Slide the final rectangle in place by attaching its flaps to the third and fourth rectangles, closing up the cube.

  10. 10

Repeat these steps eight more times to make eight cubes in total.

  1. 1

Arrange the cubes into two groups of four by putting four cubes of one color on top and four cubes of another on the bottom.

  2. 2

Using clear tape, attach top and bottom rows of cubes together in pairs. Do this by placing a small piece of tape on one side of the cubes, then fold the side with tape and place another piece of tape on the opposite side.

    • Repeat on the left side of the cubes.
  3. 3

Continue by combining the bottom four cubes (with the same color) by adding clear tape to the right side. Bend the side with the tape and place another piece of tape on the opposite side.

  4. 4

Repeat for the top four cubes.

  5. 5

Affix together. With the cubes arranged in two groups of four, place clear tape across the bottom and top cubes in the middle to connect the two groups.

  6. 6

Fold the cubes on top of each other from the point the tape was added. Create a 4x4 cube and put another two pieces of tape connecting the cubes where the colors do not match.

  7. 7

Open, fold, flip, and enjoy your new infinity cube.

  • Question

Can I use tape instead of glue, and can I use origami paper?

    Community Answer

Tape will not last as long as glue, especially a glue made for paper. There's no reason you can't use origami paper, though.

  • Question

Is there a specific paper I need to use for making an infinity cube?

    Community Answer

No, but you may want to consider paper that is thick so that you do not have to worry about it being flimsy.

  • Question

Does the length of the paper matter?

    Community Answer

No, but it has to be in a 2:1 ratio between height and width. Then you can just follow the directions and you'll have an infinity cube that works perfectly.

  • Question

You can make your cubes in any size. In order to do that, you need to draw your rectangles with a 2:1 ratio, then follow the directions as stated above.

  • Question

Can I make the length and width four inches?

    Community Answer

No. You need a 2:1 ratio, so only 1 and 2, or 2 and 4, etc. If you do a 1:1 ratio, it would fail.

  • Question

Is it okay of we use white paper instead of colored paper?

Of course! It doesn't matter, as long as it is reasonably thick. For example, I wouldn't recommend printer paper but white construction paper is fine.
